چکیده
Abstract Horizontal wells play an often overlooked role in hydrogeology and aquifer remediation but can be interesting option for many applications. This study reviews the constructional hydraulic aspects that distinguish them from vertical wells. Flow patterns towards are much more complicated than those wells, which makes their mathematical treatment demanding. However, at some distance, drawdown fields of both well types become practically identical, allowing simplified models to used. Due lower drawdowns, yield a horizontal is usually higher well, especially thin aquifers permeability, where they replace several latter. The drawdown, results energy demand slower ageing, centralized construction lead operational costs, make economically feasible option.

This is a summary of state of the art horizontal well technology and a review of the economic benefits of horizontal wells. The paper describes various reservoir applications of horizontal wells from primary recovery to EOR applications. The paper includes field examples of different applications. . Although horizontal wells have been drilled as early as 1927, the major thrust of drilling horiz...
متن کاملNatural Radioactivity in Drinking Water of Drilled Wells in Zanjan, Northwestern Iran
Background: Many radioactive compounds may be released into the environment and hence into the drinking water supplies due to the human activities. Radionuclides can also enter the food chain if the contaminated water is used for drinking or irrigation purposes. Objective: To estimate the annual effective dose of natural radioactive materials like 226Ra and 40K in drinking water of wells in Zan...
متن کاملModeling flow into horizontal wells in a Dupuit-Forchheimer model.
Horizontal wells or radial collector wells are used in shallow aquifers to enhance water withdrawal rates. Groundwater flow patterns near these wells are three-dimensional (3D), but difficult to represent in a 3D numerical model because of the high degree of grid refinement needed. However, for the purpose of designing water withdrawal systems, it is sufficient to obtain the correct production ...
متن کاملPredicting Productivity of Multiple-Fractured Horizontal Gas Wells
In low-permeability gas reservoirs, horizontal wells have been used to increase the reservoir contact area, and hydraulic fracturing has been further extending the contact between wellbores and reservoirs. This paper presents an approach to evaluate horizontal well performance for fractured or unfractured gas wells, and a sensitivity study of gas well performance in low permeability formation. ...
